Imagining PWYP climate action

Consultation with PWYP members

Webinar series and consultation paper

Initial discussions have started amongst a number of PWYP members to imagine what coordinated PWYP climate action could look like. So far, a small group of coalitions have outlined and discussed initial ideas for a PWYP global statement on these issues and potential areas of work – scoping is more developed related to oil and gas, and mining is in the works. These initial discussions have included representatives from PWYP Australia, Brazil and the Latin America network, Canada, EU, France, India, Indonesia, Malawi, Philippines, Tanzania, UK, US, Zambia, Zimbabwe as well as the PWYP Secretariat. To broaden this discussion, a series of webinars are taking place and open to the global network in English, French, and Spanish. A consultation paper has also been prepared and is available for comment until 31 July 2020. More details below, including a survey link to submit comments on the consultation paper.

Consultation paper

This consultation paper outlines initial ideas for PWYP global statements on these issues as well as potential areas of new work. The aim is to imagine what coordinated PWYP work in the context of a global energy transition could look like, and we are inviting the global PWYP membership to inform this direction. These statements could inform which letters and calls to action the PWYP Secretariat and leadership bodies – the Global Council and Africa Steering Committee – support, as well as the types of statements that they make in high-level forums. Feedback on the statements and potential areas of work will be consolidated and a revised version of the consultation paper will be presented to the Global Council in September 2020.

Survey

The survey has now closed. PWYP members are encouraged to complete this short survey with feedback on the consultation paper. Members will have until 31 July 2020 to complete the survey.
