WHO ARE WE?
The Asia Pacific Transition Mineral Accountability Working Group (AP-TMA WG), founded in January 2023, unites civil society leaders from Australia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines to confront critical challenges at the intersection of mining accountability, climate justice, and energy transitions.
The AP-TMA WG is dedicated to safeguarding the rights of local and Indigenous communities affected by the extractive sector, navigating complex energy transition governance issues, and ensuring transparency and accountability across the green energy and technology supply chain.
In its first year, the coalition developed six national advocacy plans on transition minerals, launched the regional “Championing People and Planet-Centred Climate Justice in the Just Energy Transition” campaign, and became a trusted resource for global bodies like the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
AP-TMA WG has quickly established itself as a leader in amplifying community voices and expertise across national, regional, and international platforms. Members have actively participated in high-profile events such as the OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains, the International Anti-Corruption Conference, the Open Government Partnership Global Summit, the United Nations Asia Pacific Climate Week, and the Climate Action Network Australia Conference, among others.
We are dedicated to accelerating the phase-out of fossil fuels by 2030 to secure a 1.5°C future, while ensuring that affected communities and ecosystems across the green technology supply chain are safeguarded, empowered and are the primary beneficiaries of the energy transition. Our vision is to create transformative, lasting change that guarantees shared prosperity and ensures no one is left behind in the global transition to a just and sustainable future.
