PWYP South Africa (SA) aims to ensure mandatory disclosure of financial and non-financial information across the extractives value chain. Launched in 2016, the coalition brings together 18 members from CSOs, community groups, faith-based organisations, and educational and research institutions. Together they work for goals including full disclosure by 2020 of information on socio-economic and environmental implications of proposed mining projects. The coalition also works to develop community capacity to participate in local and national decision-making processes, so people can maximise the benefits they receive from mining. PWYP SA’s principles include participation, sustainable capacity development, gender equity and accountability. The coalition is currently advocating for legislation obliging companies’ country-by-country reporting of payments to governments, down to project level. PWYP SA is also working in collaboration with PWYP UK on a data analysis project where revenues amounting to $2.43b paid to the South African government by UK companies are being analysed.
